Handling criticism can be very difficult. Oftentimes, we will take criticism as personal attacks upon our character and being. However, the very nature of our jobs as business leaders actually opens us up to the issues of criticism on a daily basis.

So how should we handle it?

Well, first of all, we should handle it as a gift given to us. Criticism means that somebody is making the time to give us a critique of how we are doing as a leader. Now, we must take certain things they say with a grain of salt. After all, when someone gives criticism a lot of times there is an ulterior motive related to it, as well. But, such motives do not necessarily mean that we automatically discount everything they say.

So take that criticism and really consider it. If you hear the same type of criticism coming from multiple sources, then you ought to really consider it and weigh it heavily. When multiple people bring the same criticism, chances are there is something to it.

So commit yourself to learning from it, and you will grow as a leader and innovator.
