Firing somebody is always a difficult thing to do. Yes, Donald Trump made it look easy on his show, that is, until he himself was recently on the receiving end of that phrase.
But in the real world, we need to deal with personalities and people’s lives, meaning their families and other situations outside of work. So firing somebody can be a very complicated and stressful issue.
Can something be done before firing someone? Of course. And it can be done on multiple levels. You can always have team leads talk with individuals about their personal performance, place in the company and overall ambitions.
However, another thing you can do is get involved yourself. As a leader of business, your words, measured of course, can become very influential in a particular worker’s attitude and work ethic.
So measuring your words out and encouraging specific and quantified results can be very helpful for such individuals as they work for you.
Think about establishing a structure of not just performance reviews, but general assessments that speak more to the mood and character of an individual worker. As you invest in them, they will, as we always remind…invest in you and your business.
